When we woke up this morning it was the glorious sort of Autumn day that you only dream of. There was a magical golden glow on everything, and it was bitingly cold. This was great because hubby and I had planned a drive through the Peak District to the spa town of Buxton. The scenery all the way along was beautiful, sprawling fields, dry stone walls, hills, rivers and trees as far as the eye could see. Buxton is about 2 hours from us, so my nanna bladder needed a little stop en route. We chose the lovely little town of Ashbourne, which is very quaint and which we've visited
before.

We soon pressed on to Buxton though, and it was well worth it. There are some things about the town which are typical of spa towns the length and breadth of the country, the beautiful architecture, the bath house which now hosts a selection of beautiful independent boutiques. The north Derbyshire town is often referred to as the Bath of the north, and you don't have to be out of your car very long to realise why. It even has its own crescent, which is currently being renovated and redeveloped. I should imagine it will look very impressive when that's done.

There's beautiful park space, which is the perfect place to while away an Autumn afternoon. Thankfully I was well wrapped up from the cold.

I know I'm wonderfully good, but that's not a halo, it's the sunlight on my new ear muffs.

Just further along a chap was filling bottles from St. Ann's well. The well brings water straight from the springs that Buxton is so famous for. We got talking to this chap, and he encouraged me to put my hands in the water, which I couldn't believe was actually warm. I expected it to be freezing, and it was clear and clean too, probably cleaner than our tap water. It was lovely to see it.
As we carried on through the gardens and parkland we found a fabulous craft fair and beer festival taking place. We wandered around, and hubby even got to have a photograph taken with two beautiful Irish wolfhounds in the park after we got talking to their owner. They were huge, but so calm and laid back and very loving.
We stopped off in the beer tent to sample some local Derbyshire Ale, and a spot of live music, before finding ourselves a lovely pub near to the opera house for a Sunday carvery, while looking out over the leafy roads of Buxton.

We walked back through the town centre, taking in the many charity shops and, of course, stopping off at the traditional sweet shop for some journey goodies. Honey liquorice, who knew? before taking a lovely drive in the fading sunlight back through the Peak District to home. It was such a glorious day out, but now we're both totally exhausted. A great way to spend a Sunday though.
