Beryl

Just before I start my post, I want to pass on thanks from hubby for all of your kind comments on his guest blog post. They were very well received, and he may even do another guest post at some point, so thank you.

This week has been my first week unemployed. I can't say it's got to me yet, since hubby has been off work too and doesn't go back until Monday. It's been a week of pottering, organising, crafting and buying really... as well as trying to shelter from the sort of gale force winds that could quite easily blow your head off. Ok, so maybe they couldn't blow your head off, but you get what I mean.

We started the week with some major clearing out. We've cleared 2 huge bookcases in the dining room that were filled with books, CDs and DVDs. The majority of the stuff lies about our house, waiting for the dining room to be decorated, but we did send a pretty impressive pile of books off to the charity shop too, and I have a pile of old text books to put on eBay.

During the evenings I've been doing some little bits of crafting with some scrap fabric from my stash and made some lovely lavender bags. Once hubby's back at work I'm hoping to have some time to work on some larger stuff with the aim of doing a craft fair later in the year.

We have been trying to figure out the best solution to store the masses of stuff we have accumulated. After nipping out yesterday evening to enrol on some West Coast Swing dance classes (starting in 2 weeks), we stopped by at the local DIY shop to price up wood for shelving.

Once home hubby put up a new CD shelf, and we were forced to organise our CDs. Based on this, there's about 4 boxes of CDs which are fairly unloved which also have to be taken to the charity shop (we're definitely doing our bit for charity shops this January). At least the ones we have kept are now organised in a manner that means we can lay our hands on music when we want it.

Finally, today we popped out car shopping. Remember way back when I wanted a Morris Minor? Well, as much as I love those I decided I needed something a little more reliable to get me to work every morning (this is on the assumption that I can actually get a job. Given I've had 2 rejections without interview today my confidence on this is a little dashed). Granville, our Rover 75 estate is now classed as a future classic car, and so I decided to look up other 'future classic cars', what should come up but the cheap and cheerful Ford KA. I've been looking for a while for a fairly inexpensive one, and today I was lucky and stumbled upon Beryl. Isn't she beautiful? I'll not be picking her up until next week, but I'm happy that's one of my 'things to do' ticked off... now I just need to find a job.

  2. I love your lil lavender satchels, it's fun to be crafty. Well I'd say your pretty busy your first week off. It feels good to clear out things you no longer want, I love doing it too. You lil car is super cute!!!! Don't get discouraged I'm sure you will find a job in no time. YES I'd love your hubby to do another post, he's quite funny.

I'd also love a trip to the UK with you as my tour guide, we would have loads of fun! Do you think I could get you to go see My Dying Bride? They are my favorite band EVER and preform a few times a year in London. They reside in England :)

  3. Beryl looks fab, Liz has had her Ka for donkey's years, the parts are so cheap and easy to get hold of on eBay.
Glad the first week's gone okay, great decluttering and lovely lavender bags. Do you think Amazon might be a better bet for text books? I'm sure you'll find something soon, I suppose it's the time everyone's out job hunting, stick at it, it'll come good in the end. xxx
